Let's work together.
Freelance Virtual Coworking

Members frequently tell us that one of the best perks of being part of The Freelancer Magazine Club is our weekly coworking sessions (also known as ‘body doubling’).
But there’s often a pattern.
First, they tell us that they’ve been meaning to try it for months.
And then, when they bite the bullet and log in to the first one, they admit it’s an absolute game-changer, and that they don’t know why they waited so long 😅
We’re not exaggerating: for so many of our members, this opportunity to connect with other freelancers and work together genuinely makes all the difference to their productivity and creativity. Just like Annie:
“If you work for yourself and find it hard to stay focused, one solution could be to join the online coworking. It really helps with my productivity, and I’m so grateful it exists! Thank you, Freelancer Magazine Club, for creating this space for us!”
- Annie Bell, Mindset Coach
The benefits of co-working/body doubling
Aside from the obvious fact that coworking allows you to see lots of friendly faces and have a natter during your workday, joining a Freelancer Magazine Club online session can:
- 🧑💻 Help you start and finish tasks you’d otherwise avoid or procrastinate on.
- 🧑💻 Provide an opportunity to bounce ideas around and get feedback from your peers.
- 🧑💻 Recreate the buzz and energy of an office or cafe in a more gentle, accessible way.
- 🧑💻 Reduce loneliness and isolation.
- 🧑💻 Give your day structure and rhythm (without sacrificing your precious freedom!).
- 🧑💻 Meet other freelancers who you can team up with for exciting client projects (like this awesome example from Craig and Claire ♥️).
One thing we repeatedly hear is that our coworking is a particularly powerful tool for those with neurodivergent brains, or who struggle with anxiety and self-confidence. And that’s because it offers a gentle, low-pressure way to feel connected to a wider professional community 🥰
How does the Freelancer Magazine Club virtual coworking work?

Our virtual coworking sessions run three mornings a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 9.30-11.30am), and are hosted by our team of incredible freelance community members.
There’s no set agenda; however, the rough format is:
- 👋 Short intros. Introduce yourself, say hello, and let us know what you’re working on. (I promise, this isn’t like those icky, “go around the room and tell us something about yourself” corporate bore-fests).
- ✍️ Deep work. 2 x 45-minute work slots. You can work on whatever you want (client projects, research, CPD, or that dreaded inbox clearout you’ve been putting off for weeks 🫣). You can have your camera and mic off, so you can still listen to your tunes or have FRIENDS on in the background.
- 🤗 A breakout chat. In between each 45-minute session, there’ll be a short catch-up where you can share how your task is going.
And honestly, it’s nothing to fret about: it’s casual, fun, and not in the least bit intense!
Virtual co-working FAQs
There are a few questions we always get asked about our coworking session, so we’re sharing them – and our personal answers! - with you, in case you’re still unsure if this is for you.
Q: I need to work in silence to be able to concentrate.
A: We’re with you – totally get it. These sessions consist of a short intro, followed by 2 x 45min work sessions in silence. There’s no constant background noise. No chitchat. You’ll be shocked at how focused and productive you’ll be!
Q: I love the coworking, but I often can’t make it due to other commitments.
A: You’re welcome to just join us for one 45-minute session or dip in and out as you need to. Plenty of people do that! You can also take calls, etc., as everyone is on mute. Plus, there is absolutely no obligation to attend – feel free to just drop into a session whenever you’re free.
Q: I feel like everyone knows each other really well.
A: There are quite a few people who attend very regularly because it’s an absolute game-changer for their work, so they know other members. But this is not a clique. There are brand new people in almost every session. Just remember that everyone went to their first session once.
But don’t just take our word for it – here’s what Arianna and Rebecca had to say:
“I used to think virtual co-working sounded a bit intense, but joining the Freelancer Magazine sessions has become one of the loveliest parts of my freelance week. It’s a great way to get through your to-do list alongside some of the friendliest freelancers I know”
- Arianna Ferrini, Senior Medical Writer and Science Communicator
“I was an extrovert who loved being with people, working alone in a little wooden office. Now, I have a community of people that I see up to three times a week, who keep me focused, keep me sane, make me laugh, give advice, and listen if I need a moan. I feel part of something bigger than me. I have friends and colleagues to work with, even from my little solo office”
- Rebecca Salvatore, Veterinary and Pet Industry Copywriter
As you can see, these co-working sessions can be anything you want them to be.
Every member uses this time differently, but one thing everyone has in common is that they all get a huge amount of benefit from it.
So, we’re going to gently nudge you to get your first co-working session under your belt. We promise you won’t regret it 🤗
